While you should always travel with your driver’s license or passport, forgetfulness happens. Erica Ho at MapHappy notes that no matter what, though, you should still try—she got into the airport with nothing but her Costco card.
It turns out, you don’t necessarily have to have a driver’s license or passport to get in. If your TSA agents are nice, other “picture IDs” may work, and even then, they have other methods of verifying your identity:
You’ll be able to fly as long as you provide us with some information that will help us determine you are who you say you are. If you’re willing to provide some additional information, we have other means of substantiating your identity, such as using publicly available databases. If we can confirm your identity, you’ll be cleared to go through security and you may or may not have to go through some additional screening.
Shockingly, this is not the first time I’ve heard of someone getting through security with just their Costco card. It may also help if you have credit cards and other idenfitying items with you, too. If you forgot your entire wallet…things could get dicier, but it’s always worth a shot.
The moral of the story: if you arrive at the airport, facepalm, and realize you forgot your ID, try with whatever you have on you. Read Erica’s story at the link below.
